OVERVIEW
What began as a family outing, a couple of chairs beside two old fisherman’s huts facing the Sado River, and a desire to perpetuate that unforgettable day, has become Cabanas no Rio; two small huts just outside the laid-back beach town of Comporta. Free from superfluous objects, the cabanas allow guests to feel one with nature and a part of something much larger than everyday life. In the first cabin you’ll find a living room and a modest kitchen with everything you need to prepare simple meals. The second cabin has a cozy bedroom and bathroom with an indoor / outdoor shower.
WHY WE LOVE IT
While the property is intentionally paired back and minimal both with respect to design and more traditional amenities, the setting here truly is the star of the show. Integrated in the natural reserve of the Sado River, the area is home to a variety of wildlife such as flamingos, storks and dolphins. It’s also one of the best places in Portugal for bird watching.
LOCATION
Cabanas no Rio is located in Comporta, a relaxed beach town one hour south of Lisbon, known for its white sandy beaches, great wines, fresh seafood and beautiful rice paddies. The property itself is located just 3km from Comporta beach and village, nestled on the banks of the Sado River.
